Ayurvedic Energy Principles: Vata, Pitta and Kapha
Ayurveda is the knowledge of a long, happy and healthy life. Ayurveda is natural and comprehensive, timeless yet modern. Its application is simple and independent of where we come from and where we live, what likes and dislikes we have. The secret of Ayurveda lies in the holistic principle and the knowledge of our unity with nature and its laws. Ayurveda shows us the way to a life in balance – the basis for perfect well-being, natural beauty and sustainable health.
According to Ayurveda, the key to well-being is found in understanding the three basic Ayurvedic energies Vata, Pitta and Kapha. All of our physical, mental and psychological qualities express a completely individual combination of these basic forces in our personality. They are our ‘Ayurveda type’, our inner nature, the blueprint for a long and healthy life – unmistakably unique as a fingerprint.
Vata, Pitta, Kapha
Movement, metabolism, structure
According to Ayurveda, there are three basic forces that permeate the entire cosmos, nature and also man: the three ‘doshas’. These regulate all bodily functions and determine its own type. The individual distribution of the three doshas determines the different characteristics of our personality, our preferences and habits, our weaknesses and strengths.
These are the three doshas
VATA: the principle of movement
is responsible for the nervous system, breathing and all movement processes in the body. The elements ether and air are classified with the Vata dosha. With a balanced Vata one feels energetic, happy, enthusiastic and creative; the mind is calm, clear and alive.
PITTA: the metabolic principle
regulates digestion and body temperature, among other things. In the spiritual field it represents a keen intellect and emotions. Pitta consists primarily of the element of fire. When this dosha is in balance, it provides satisfaction, energy, eloquence, good digestive strength, the right body temperature and a clear mind.
KAPHA: The Structural Principle
gives the body firmness and stability and keeps the fluid balance. The elements earth and water are classified under it. A balanced Kapha provides strength, stamina, a good immune system, patience and psychological stability.
